NEWPORT, Oregon – Butterfly Adventures is a stunning new attraction that provides guests the ability to touch and interact with hundreds of free flying butterflies. Joining Mariner Square's Ripley's Believe It or Not, The Wax Works, and Undersea Gardens on Newport's Historic Bay Front for this summer season, Butterfly Adventures is a spectacular new eco-friendly entertainment and educational experience for both adults and children.
Butterfly Adventures is the only butterfly exhibit on the Oregon Coast showcasing free flying regional butterflies where visitors will learn the life cycle of the butterflies. A 2000 square foot walk through butterfly house filled with colorful regional plants and flowers provide the venue for visitors to see live examples of the amazing change from egg, to caterpillar, to pupae, to butterfly at the life cycle station. Professional butterfly handlers will provide a hands-on interaction with Monarch or Painted Lady butterflies for that special memory that lasts a lifetime. Complimenting the live experience is a variety of "fun" facts on a professionally designed signage that underlines one of the components of the educational value of the butterfly experience. In Butterfly Alley, visitors will observe butterflies feasting on fruits, nectar and their nectar plants. And at the save the planet – save a butterfly station, visitors will see how their backyard gardens can make a difference in the life of a butterfly, their critical role in the ecosystem and learn the interdependency between nature and its inhabitants.
"We're very excited to have Butterfly Adventures as part of the Mariner Square attractions," stated Neal Henning, General Manager of Mariner Enterprises. "The uniqueness of this exhibit and the extraordinary experience it gives our visitors adds an additional dimension to the Bay Front experience. The sheer delight of having a butterfly land on you is an exciting memory that our visitors won't forget."
Butterfly Adventures is the brainchild of Peter and Lisa Noah, once local residents of Newport for 15 years. This idea came about during their travels in the Caribbean and throughout Asia, where butterfly houses are more common than in the United States.
"We've seen some spectacular butterfly exhibits and one of our favorite memories are of the butterflies landing on our arms, hands, head, legs, and even on my watch," noted Peter Noah, owner of Butterfly Adventures. "We wanted to share this wonderful experience with other people who know and love butterflies but may not have had the opportunity to experience them in person. When we came back to Newport, we thought it was a perfect fit in the unused upper level space at Mariner Square."
Butterflies are unique display creatures with less than 80 facilities worldwide that display butterflies. Butterfly Adventures, located at 250 SW Bay Boulevard, is open daily from 9 am to 8 pm until late September. Admission is $5.00 for adults, $4.00 for children 3-11 years old, and under 3 years are free. Combo tickets are available for all four attractions. Adult Combo Tickets are $26.90, Children 3-11 is $15.90. (541) 265-2206
