33rd Annual Newport Seafood & Wine Commercial Wine Competition

NEWPORT, Oregon – The judging for the 2010 Commercial Wine Competition took place on Saturday, February 13th and Sunday, February 14th, 2010, at the Shilo Inn Oceanfront Hotel in Newport.
There were 5 judges, from Washington, Colorado and Oregon, tasting and studying 154 wines,
all entered by Pacific Northwest wineries. In all, 89 medals were awarded.
Selected as 'Best of Show' went to Domaine Ste. Michelle for a non-vintage Brut Methode Champenoise.
Joseph Swafford, owner of Champagne Patio in Newport, and Commercial Wine Chair says: "Domaine Ste. Michelle
has been consistent in both quality and price. Their approximately $10 to $11 Blanc de Noir, won Gold and
Best in Show in Newport's 2009 competition."
There were twenty (20) Gold Medal Winners. The Top Ten are:
- Abiqua Wind Vineyard for a Gewurztraminer;
- Agate Ridge Vineyard for a Cabernet Sauvignon;
- Capitello Wines for a Pinot Gris and a Sparkling wine;
- Chateau Ste. Michelle for a Merlot;
- Coleman Vineyards for a Pinot Noir;
- Covey Run Winery for a Dessert wine; and
- Domaine Ste. Michelle for three Sparkling wines.

There were 37 Silver Medals awarded, which included several Pinot Noirs, Syrahs and Open Reds.
32 Bronze Medals were awarded: including several Cabernet Sauvignons, Pinot Noirs, Syrahs and a Riesling.
Congratulations to all the commercial wine makers who participated.
